Construction corridor to deliver green homes

Thu 5th December 2019, 12:26 pm

The creation of a construction corridor across the north of England to deliver green homes has been boosted by the award of 30m funding.

The money is being allocated from the Home Building Fund, which is a £4.5bn pot delivered by government housing agency Homes England.

Construction firm ilke Homes will receive the injection of cash into its production of modular homes at its factory in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.

The homes are designed to halve the energy costs of the average UK property, using precision engineering alongside a high-level of quality and design consistency.

In the next year 2,000 of the energy-efficient modular homes will be rolling off ilke Homes’ production line, rising to 5,000 a year within the next five years.

The funding announcement will provide a major boost to this work and to the wider ambition of a construction corridor stretching across the north of England.

Dave Sheridan, executive chairman at ilke Homes, said: “The funding will bring in further private capital, creating hundreds more skilled jobs allowing us to build more homes more quickly for first-time buyers.

“We want to continue driving efficiency, quality and sustainability within the housebuilding industry and see this as a fantastic signal to others wishing to do the same.”
