Atkins Global is joining Sitematch for the second time. Development director Keith Sands explains how the event has helped the consultancy deepen its relationships with local authorities...

Could you give us a brief description of Atkins?

Atkins is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. With more than 18,000 people – 9,000 in the UK and 1,000 in London – we’re here to help local authorities tackle some of their biggest challenges, from affordable housing to transport and connectivity.

What is your role at the company?

I’m a development director working across the public sector to deliver solutions for local authorities that will help them build sustainable communities and deliver the affordable homes London needs.

What sets Atkins apart from other consultancies?

A lot of other consultancies see themselves in a supporting role. At Atkins we’re actively finding solutions and bringing them to market. We’re taking the time to speak to local authorities and really understand their challenges, so we can bring them new products and services that meet a fundamental need. Affordable housing is a great example of where Atkins is doing this.

Why has your company decided to be a partner of Sitematch? How do you think this will benefit your business?

The deeper our relationship with local authorities the better we understand their challenges and can deliver what they need, helping them to make a real impact on London and its inhabitants. This is our second year partnering with Sitematch and it gives us an invaluable opportunity to speak to local authorities and find out how Atkins can work with them to deliver better infrastructure for their boroughs.

How do you think your expertise will benefit the event and the other participants (local authorities and developers)?

Atkins has more than 75 years’ experience in the consultancy business and employs some of the world’s best experts on planning and infrastructure. Our people have worked with most of the London boroughs and can bring real experience and understanding to the table. We’ve also got the skills that local authorities need right now to help them build new homes: identifying land for development, preparing that land for use through remediation, and – building on our experience using new methods of construction in the education market – building these homes quicker and more economically, while still delivering high quality buildings.

What is the most important project you have worked on in the last year?

Over the last 12 months we’ve been working on some of London’s biggest development schemes, from helping Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation set their sustainability principles to remediating land and designing homes for a new community in west London. We’ve also been working with a partner on bringing a new product to the market, which we’ll be in a position to launch later this year.
