Government considers sending staff to councils

The government has announced that as part of housing devolution, it is considering sending staff from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to local authorities.

Melanie Dawes, secretary at the DCLG, explained to parliament that housing experts from her department could be placed at local authorities around the country to help them establish housing delivery strategies.

She said: “What we may well do is decide that some of our staff either in the core department [DCLG] or at the HCA might be more effective actually moving to work inside the relevant local authorities for a period of time.”
