Council CEOs want more housing flexibility

The Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (SOLACE) has called for greater flexibility to allow councils to intervene in the housing market at a local level.
SOLACE said a greater role for local authorities is required if the government is to hit its target to build 1 million homes by 2020.
The group has argued that councils should be the "principal drivers" for building new homes, supported by central government.
Recommendations include the government removing the borrowing cap and allowing locally generated funds to be re-invested into new housing. All recommendations can be read here:http://www.solace.org.uk/press/2015-12-07-solace-addressing-the-housing-challenge-policy-pap/.
