Wandsworth to increase house building programme

Fri 6th February 2015, 10:22 am

The London Borough of Wandsworth has increased the number of homes it plans to build over the next ten years from 11,000 to 18,000.

The plans are a response to the drastic demand for affordable homes in London. In order to hit this target, the council is planning on moving regeneration plans for three large housing estates forward, as well as potentially establishing its own housing company.

Council leader Ravi Govindia said: "Through the Wandsworth housing offer we will help a broader range of people than ever before and will boost supply right across the local housing market.

"It amounts to a major expansion of our traditional local authority housing role and makes full use of new freedoms to manage our resources and take risks.

"Our key objective is to sustain a significant increase in housing supply with a focus on providing opportunities for the diverse range of households living and moving here.

"This includes older householders, the sons and daughters of our existing residents and the young singles and couples who make up an important part of the borough population."

The London Borough of Wandsworth will attend the Sitematch London event on 10 February. Contact the Sitematch team for more information.
