Inquiry into NPPF planning targets

The communities and local government committee has launched an inquiry into the National Planning Policy Framework and how it has affected planning in local authorities.
The inquiry comes after a study by the Centre for Housing and Planning Research at Cambridge University which concludes that hitting or failing to hit planning targets is more often than not unrelated to good or bad planning performance.
Clive Betts, MP and chair of the committee, said: "The research suggests that Government planning performance targets may be driving perverse behaviour.
"This is especially worrying as the research also finds that a focus on good practice in local planning authorities is required if the NPPF is to be fully effective."
