A consultation published by the Department for Communities and Local Government has revealed plans to toughen the criteria under which local authorities are to be placed in special measures for failing to hit planning targets.
Currently the target percentage for councils for determining planning applications is more than 30 per cent within a 13 week period.
According to the document, this percentage could be raised to 40 per cent.
Other plans include exempting small residential schemes from Section 106 charges.
