Catalyst Housing buys surplus NHS site

Housing association Catalyst Housing has purchased a 2.2ha site in Southall from the West London Mental Health NHS Trust for 14 million, after a meeting at a previous Sitematch London event.

Catalyst plans to build 270 new homes on the site for a variety of tenures, and has received outline planning consent from London Borough of Ealing.

A total of £65 million will be invested into developing the site over the coming years, with works planned to begin this autumn.

Tom Titherington, Catalyst’s director of business development & market intelligence, said: "Securing this strategically important site, which, being in Southall – one of the Mayor of London’s Opportunity Areas – is poised for major improvements over the coming years, is central to our strategy to grow our presence in London and the South East.

"Our land team are actively looking for development sites across west and north west London, the Thames Valley and M1 corridor, in line with our long-term plans."

Eric Munro, director of estates and facilities at West London Mental Health NHS Trust, said: "We are delighted that this surplus land on the St Bernard’s site will be used by Catalyst as part of a substantial regeneration of this part of West London.

"Our trust is investing the sale proceeds in the construction of a new medium secure hospital elsewhere on the St Bernard’s site so that we improve the facilities in which we care for patients as well as the care we are able to offer those in need."
