Irish former champion road cyclist, Stephen Roche, has paid tribute to the achievement of the MIPIM peloton, which includes 3Fox International managing director Toby Fox, riding in Team Sitematch.
In a message of support to the Cycle to MIPIM group, Roche said: “Cycling from London to Cannes as an amateur rider is a phenomenal feat, especially at this time of year when the unpredictable weather can be as much of a challenge as the cycling. I have a huge amount of respect for all those participating in the 1,452km journey. Keep pedalling!”
Roche also offered his top tip for the riders: “Make the most of working together as a group. There’ll be many tired legs out there by now, so stay efficient and share the energy."
Former professional road cyclist Roche won the Triple Crown, which entails victories in the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and the World Road Race Championship: only one of two cyclists ever to do so.
On Day Five, the penultimate of the challenge (10 March), Fox said: "I have had some dark moments especially on Day Three into Dijon, but the experienced riders at the back were lifesavers, especially Pat Hayes.
“Yesterday was a dream with fantastic conditions, beautiful weather, smooth roads and great company. I've done only a little more than the minimum and feel a bit phoney compared to the extraordinary displays of stamina and athleticism of many other riders. I am rooming with David Hutt of Willmott Dixon who yesterday completed all six stages, over 300km – awesome – but on my own terms, I’m proud to be well on the way to meeting a big personal challenge, and to have the support of such a fantastic group of people at 3Fox.”
Corporately, 3Fox has raised £32,500 in sponsorship for Team Sitematch, added to Fox's personal fundraising of £1,195 for the ride, as of today.
Fox’s fellow riders in Team Sitematch are: David Lunts, executive director of housing and land at the Greater London Authority, Brendon Walsh, director of regeneration, economic development and environment at Hounslow Council; Ann Hunter, chief executive of Ealing Broadway Business Improvement District; Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council; Pat Hayes, Ealing’s executive director of regeneration and housing; and David Hutt, strategic business development manager at Willmott Dixon.
3Fox has organised delegations for its local authority partners at MIPIM – Ealing, Enfield, Hounslow and Brent Cross Cricklewood. The event takes place between 11 and 14 March.
The bike ride is in aid of children’s charity, Coram – which offers direct, practical help and emotional support to vulnerable children, young people, and their families: finding adoptive families for children in need of loving, permanent homes, helping traumatised children express their pain through art and music and providing supported housing to young care-leavers and homeless people.
