Plans to build more than 1,000 new homes on the site of the former BBC TV Centre in Shepherd's Bush have been approved by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Developer Stanhope's application for the 5ha site includes 1,025 homes, a hotel, cinema, health and leisure club, restaurants and cafes.

The scheme could lead to the creation of 2,265 new jobs, generating £3 million each year for the local economy.

Mark Loveday, the council’s cabinet member for strategy and communication, said: "Television Centre holds a special place in many people’s hearts and by approving these plans we have immortalised the key elements of this iconic building for the nation.

"We are thrilled this scheme keeps this wonderfully evocative building for posterity, while bringing thousands of jobs, homes and exciting opportunities for local residents to the area."

Stanhope will contribute £10 million to local services through a section 106 agreement.
