The Office for National Statistics has revealed that the number of new homes built in 2012/13 is the lowest in ten years.

In the past 12 months, 124,720 new homes were built, compared to 134,900 in the year before. The highest annual number of new homes built during the decade was in 2007/08, with 223,530 houses completed.

On 22 November, the government departments' property teams are meeting developers at the first ever Sitematch UK to promote the development of surplus public land and stimulate the building of new homes.
