The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has announced that Blaby District Council will be placed in special measures for consistently underperforming for planning applications.
Under the measures, developers will have the option of submitting planning applications for major schemes directly to the Planning Inspectorate.
Planning minister Nick Boles said: “We always want local decision-making where possible, but at the same time it’s vital to the economy that proposals are decided on swiftly."
According to earlier reports by DCLG, a further 26 councils would be placed in special measures for ‘county matter’ applications, but Planning magazine reports a decision on this has been deferred by six months due to the number of authorities requesting corrections to the data.
