Councils in England have reduced their housing target to roughly 170,000 a year, according to a group of property experts led by BNP Paribas Real Estate and Local Dialogue, a stakeholder engagement consultancy.

The findings of a report, Housing the Nation, contradicts the forecast of the Department of Communities and Local government, which targets 221,000 new homes per year, more than 51.000 homes above local authority estimates.
