Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust has secured a total of £844,800 in development funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The trust applied for a total funding package of £16.8m. The initial tranche of funding will be used to develop design of the project and business plan.

After this initial phase, the trust will make another application to access the remaining funds required for construction works.

HLF’s funding will contribute significantly to a £23.9m project to transform the eastern wing of the palace.

Cllr Claire Kober, leader of Haringey Council, said: “We are delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has backed the proposals and that together we can start drawing up more detailed plans to restore this historic landmark for the benefit of the community.”

London mayor Boris Johnson said: “It is fantastic and fitting that, with continued support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the ‘People’s Palace’ is now well on the way to a new lease of life as a major entertainment destination for North London and indeed the world.”
