Developer Lovell has signed a contract worth £63.3 million for a mixed housing scheme in Dagenham after a successful bid through Homes and Community Agency’s regional delivery partner panel.

The brownfield site is located at Lymington Fields and was previously occupied by Barking Technical College in the 1980’s.

It is one of the first sites to be brought forward by the mayor of London Boris Johnson as part of his aim to release publically owned land for development.

The area is one of the sites to be transferred from the Greater London Authority to the HCAon 1 April 2012.

The 12.8ha site will see the construction of 362 new houses, including 213 for private sale, 104 for affordable rent and 45 for shared ownership, which will be managed by housing provider Home Group.

Construction is expected to begin by the end of summer 2013, and finish in 2017.
