Ministers consult on CIL reforms
Thu 18th April 2013, 4:25 pm
The Department for Communities and Local Government has launched a consultation on reforms of the community infrastructure levy (CIL).
One of the proposed reforms in this document is to allow charging authorities to set different charges depending on the scale of the development.
Under current regulations, charging authorities are only allowed to set different charges for different development types.
The proposed reforms could mean that larger developments will be charged more compared to smaller development of the same planning use class.
Other proposed reforms include plans to require charging authorities to strike an appropriate balance between desirability of funding infrastructure and potential influence of a levy on the economic viability of development across an area.
The consultation ends on 28 May 2013.
