Government responds to Heseltine public land recommendations

The Government has accepted Lord Heseltine's recommendations on the disposal of public sector surplus land.

Lord Heseltine’s report into encouraging growth, released in December, recommended that the Government Property Unit (GPU) should cooperate with local authorities to publish details of surplus public land in ePIMS.

Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne this week pointed to the launch of a web portal in January 2013 to increase awareness of surplus public assets.

The government also said that the GPU would pilot a programme with 12 local authorities outside London to pool the land assets of central government and the wider public sector in an attempt to drive value.
