Croydon makes effort to reduce empty properties

Fri 22nd February 2013, 10:52 am

Croydon Council is collaborating with three community interest groups funded by the Homes and Communities Agency to reduce the number of empty properties in the borough.

A team of dedicated council officers will provide advice and assistance to property owners (including loans from councils).

If necessary, the council says it will apply for compulsory purchase orders, with six properties being lined up for a CPO in the next few months.

In total, the council has returned 157 empty properties to use, it said.

The council will attend the next Sitematch event on 5 March to meet developers and is keen to discuss various development opportunities.
