Raft of central government land added to Sitematch London

Mon 30th July 2012, 9:34 am

Sitematch London has added 36 sites owned by national government departments to the site.

Lansdown Road: East Croydon site available for development

The sites, released by ministers under the government's open data policy, are dominated by NHS sites.

But they also include potential development opportunities currently in the hands of the Ministry of Justice, Cabinet Office and the Department for Transport.

The Sitematch team is currently checking the sites to ensure that they are genuine development opportunities and will update the sites over coming weeks.

Another tranche of around 30 government-held surplus land opportunities will also be checked and added to Sitematch London over the next month.

BRB Residuary Ltd, part of the DfT responsible for disposing of former British Rail property, originally listed eight sites on the government's database

But after checking by Sitematch researchers, it emerged that only one of these sites is a genuine development opportunity - land at Lansdowne Road, East Croydon, London.

The site is currently zoned for industrial uses, but the Homes and Communities Agency is believed to consider the site suitable for residential development, according to a source.

The other sites listed by the DfT had either been sold, or were being retained for use as part of the forthcoming Crossrail project.
