The NHS has published details of 817 hectares of land in England which it no longer needs for healthcare.
The information was provided by the Department of Health after a survey returned details from 188 of the 399 NHS trusts across England.
Although much of the land is listed as "not on the market", there are a number of opportunities for developers to buy sites.
A report accompanying the list said: "The information will assist in quantifying the contribution of the NHS to the ongoing government initiative of accelerating the release of public sector land for development."
A total of 414 separate parcels of land were identified, 330 of which are larger than 0.25 hectares.
Last week, in a similar move, the Homes and Communities Agency published an updated list of sites in its ownership which are up for sale.
Housing minister Grant Shapps said that the government was on track to exceed its promise to release enough surplus land for 100,000 homes by 2015.
